The U16 Gladiators opened the Spring 2008 season with 2 wins at the Staten Island College Showcase. The Showcase was held at Staten Island Community College and Wagner College. In the first game, the Gladiators played a very strong HBC Elite Team from Long island. The Gladiators turned in an solid effort despite being edged by HBC 1-0.  In game 2,  the U16 girls defeated Staten Island United 1-0 on a goal by midfielder Jen Downey. Katie Popowych assisted. Game 3 brought another Gladiator victory with a win over Manalapan 1-0. Kristyn Padavano scored off a cross from Katie Popowych. Kate Metrokotsas directed an improving midfield from her central midfield position.

The team has raised expectations for the 2008 season with its improved play in each game. Congratulations to Arielle Stevens for a solid job in the goal! With the regular Gladiator keeper unavailable, Arielle, a defender, stepped into the net to earn 2 hard fought shutouts. The Gladiators will continue their successful start on March15-16 in the MAPS Spring tournament.
